Strategic Planning at LaSalle Catholic
Continues to Prove Effective!
“A failure to plan is a plan to fail”. This old adage holds some truth, and it leads me to wonder if the converse is also true. It would appear that at LaSalle Catholic our efforts to strategically plan for have already begun to bear fruit in our academic excellence, governance and leadership, operational vitality, and mission and Catholic identity. As we finish the chapter on our original strategic plan, we also turn the page to begin a new chapter of our next phase of planning.
The previous plan served first to lay a lot of emphasis the foundation for what will come in the years ahead. Enrollment has steadied, new streams of revenue are beginning to flow, our reputation for faithfulness and rigor are both spreading, and systems to sustain such fruit are stronger and better able to ensure a strong future. With these hopeful bright signs of hope, we boldly ask, “what is next”?
The next plan includes five goals. They are “increased academic excellence”, “bolstered retention rates”, “enhanced program offerings”, “uniquely Catholic identity”, and “thoughtful facility stewardship”. Within each of these goals we find a variety of specific objectives that we will accomplish over the next few years. All of these goals and objectives have been discerned prayerfully, with input from school families, staff, and school board, and following the direction of the Archdiocese of Dubuque as well as Catholic Schools Management.
Presently, things are moving into place for things such as more systematic and consistent pathways to accelerated math and science courses in high school, partnership between existing groups like Open Conversations and our strategic planning committee to support families within our own walls, and an annual appeal supported by data to further the mission of the school. With that being said, the strategic plan is a living document and bears regular revisits and revisions.
To be sure, in the months and years ahead people will continue to read or hear about improvements at LaSalle Catholic. Not everything that happens here necessarily falls under the scope of this strategic planning, but there is a fair chance that the upgrades you learn about may very well be part and parcel of a thought-out plan and of course the grace of God!
