My name is Nathan Shepard, and I am excited to join the LaSalle Catholic community as your new 5th grade social studies and religion teacher!
I grew up in Toledo, Iowa and attended Iowa State and Upper Iowa. While working on my teaching degree, I became a full time police officer. After graduating from Upper Iowa with a bachelor's degree in social sciences, I worked for almost ten years in at-risk education. In 2018, I returned to my hometown to serve as a police officer and later as detective and police chief. While serving as chief, I was called “home” once again, but this time it was to the Catholic church! In 2021, my children, Grayson (14), Oliver (12), and Lillian (9) and I joined my wife of 18 years, Sarah, in the Catholic church. Shortly thereafter, I returned to college, feeling the call to finish what I had started over twenty years ago, to become a teacher. This spring, I received an unexpected call from Principal Zeckser asking if I would be interested in applying at LaSalle. The rest, they say, is history!
When I am not teaching your awesome children, you can usually find me with mine! Otherwise, I enjoy spending my free time reading about American and Catholic history, watching football and basketball, and occasionally acting/directing in community theater.
